The boy is believed to have spent most of his time in there, with investigators now trying to work out when the child was first confined to the cramped cage. Video of baby’s swim lesson sparks backlash on TikTok

Gambar
A controversial video of a baby learning how to swim has ignited debate on TikTok, with some referring to the method employed as "traumatic." The short clip, which was shared by mom Krysta Meyer on June 21 and has since been viewed over 51 million times, shows her young son Oliver being thrown into a pool by a swimming instructor, who then jumps in after the baby but does not intervene as he sinks. Oliver quickly rights himself and floats to the surface of the pool on his back, and is met by encouragement from his instructor and Meyer, who was standing by to watch and record the lesson. "Oliver amazes me every week!" the proud mom wrote on TikTok. "I can't believe he is barely 2 months in and is catching on so fast. He is a little fish." TikTok users were divided over the technique being taught in the video, which is often referred to as "self-rescue" swimming, where children as young as six months old are thrown into pools and allowed to rig...

Palmdale Baby Rescue A Palmdale Sheriff's Station deputy took swift action at a park recently, when he encountered a desperate mother and her son, who was in physical distress. On Sunday, May 31, 2020, security camera footage captured the intense moment when two women ran frantically across a supermarket parking lot in the 3000 block of Rancho Vista Boulevard; one of them carried a limp, 11-month-old boy and stopped to administer back blows upon him. Crazy in the Kitchen? Teach Your Toddler How to Cook During a Pandemic

Gambar
While things are slowly beginning to open back up in California, everyone is evaluating risk their own way. While some are happily dining out already, others, like my family, aren't ready to come out of quarantine just yet.  The past few months have been hard. And boring. So, so boring. It's pretty difficult to keep a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old sane after spending 90+ days out of parks and playgroups, cooped up at home. To say I've been branching out in my desperation to keep them occupied and learning is an understatement.   When Sun Basket first reached out to me, asking if I would be interested in testing them out, I did what I usually do and passed it on to my editor. At the time I was up to my eyeballs in stress, and I couldn't imagine having the time to cook while also trying to wrangle my tiny human beasts and work remotely. I had attempted other meal kit delivery services before, and while I enjoyed the food in all of them, I am not big on having to cook. I...

3 Ways to Tame Toddler Tantrums

Gambar
Last night, while my 3-year-old played in the living room and my husband read to the baby, I found myself collapsed on the kitchen floor, head in hands, tears rolling down my face. I did not want to face my child. I did not feel I could handle it. Here I was, a child psychologist, and yet again the prospect of a simple bedtime routine—with its promise of an accompanying emotional meltdown for both her and me—completely overwhelmed me.  Tantrums can feel like a supersonic attack. Source: Julia Strait Behavior difficulties like tantrums and outbursts are already one of the hardest parts of being a parent, and they're becoming increasingly common during the current pandemic. How can we address them? 1. Use Behavior Modification Strategies Behavior modification techniques  are great tools to have in your kit. They are the basis for essentially every evidence-based behavior management program that exists, and for good reason: There's a lot of eviden...

Cute Baby & Kids Clothes Hangers to Get Their Closet Organized

Gambar
One of the hotspots for kids clutter in your home, aside from the playroom or wherever their toys are, is their closet. With an ever-growing child and the need to constantly purchase new clothing for them, it gets cramped right before your eyes, making it impossible to find something that actually fits them. However, there are some smart tricks to fit more in neatly so you can view everything in sight without having to peel back a bunch of layers. It all starts with using appropriate baby and kids clothes hangers so everything stays in place. First of all, using hangers made for clothing their size is going to ensure that nothing falls off. We've all been there when we've been searching for an item to later find it sitting on the back of the closet floor. Whether you choose plastic or velvet (which tends to be better at keeping things in place since it doesn't slip), there are plenty of options to choose from to enhance their closet organizing experience. Below, we...

‘Shades of Black’ and other toddler books celebrate black families

Gambar
(CNN) – Children love to see images of themselves in the books that are read to them and in the books they read. While representation has rarely been a problem for white families with young kids, it hasn't always been so easy for parents of black, Latino, Asian and other nonwhite children to find their skin colors and cultures represented in the pages of children's books. As our Sesame Street friends join CNN on Saturday at 10 a.m. to talk to kids and their parents about racism, the nationwide protests and embracing diversity, we reached out to Jambo Books co-founder Mijha Godfrey to ask her for recommendations for smart and fun books featuring black characters for the 4 and under set. Godfrey said that children pick up their values from their families and the stories that are read to them. Her company, which launched in May 2018, believes that it's important for children to read stories about children that look like them and children who do not look like them. Only one of ...
